Chronic Q-Fever (Coxiella burnetii) Causing Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm and Lumbar Osteomyelitis: A Case Report
Coxiella burnetii is a rare cause of chronic infection that most frequently presents as endocarditis. We report a case of C burnetii causing an infected abdominal aortic aneurysm with contiguous lumbar osteomyelitis resulting in spinal cord compromise. The diagnosis was established by serologic studies consistent with chronic Q-fever (ratio of C burnetii immunoglobulin [Ig]G phase II titer to I...
متن کاملUnique Clone of Coxiella burnetii Causing Severe Q Fever, French Guiana
Acute Q fever is an emergent and severe disease in French Guiana. We obtained 5 Coxiella burnetii isolates from samples of patients from Cayenne and found an epidemic clone circulating in Cayenne. This clone has caused pneumonia and endocarditis and seems to be more virulent than previously described strains.
متن کاملChronic Q Fever in Alberta: A Case of Coxiella burnetii Mycotic Aneurysm and Concomitant Vertebral Osteomyelitis
Chronic Q fever is a potentially life-threatening infection from the intracellular, Gram-negative Coxiella burnetii. It presents most commonly as endocarditis or vascular infection in people with underlying cardiac or vascular disease. We discuss a case of a 67-year-old male with Coxiella burnetii vascular infection of a perirenal abdominal aortic graft. The patient had a history of an abdomina...

متن کاملCoxiella burnetii - Pathogenic Agent of Q (Query) Fever.
1.1.1 Structure C. burnetii is a member of the family of the Coxiellaceae bacteria and replicates intracellularly in cells of different species. Phylogenetically related bacteria include Legionellaceae, Francisellaceae, Pseudomonaceae, and other Gammaproteobacteria. Coxiella are small Gram-negative, pleomorphic, coccoid bacteria with a size of 0.2–1.0 m. They occur in 3 different forms: small c...
